CM Punk Apologised To Tony Khan Over Infamous AEW All Out Rant

CM Punk on the post-All Out media scrum

All Elite Wrestling's post-pay-per-view media scrums had been routine affairs for the most part but that all changed at All Out 2022 as CM Punk, muffins from Mindy's Bakery in hand, went on an infamous rant in which he took shots at Colt Cabana, Hangman Page, and The Elite (referring to them as AEW's EVPs).

Punk's rant was the culmination of months of backstage issues in All Elite Wrestling that all began when it emerged that AEW weren't planning to renew Colt Cabana's contract, a decision that sections of the locker room blamed on Punk. The Second City Saint has vehemently denied any involvement in AEW's original decision to not renew Cabana's deal.

AEW President Tony Khan was awkwardly sat next to Punk as he ranted and despite being the head of the company, did nothing to stop Punk from venting his frustrations.

Addressing the rant while speaking to ESPN, Punk revealed that he apologised to Khan about his actions at the post-All Out media scrum. Punk claimed, however, that he had already expressed his frustrations about the backstage issues within AEW, including to lawyers, but he reached the point where he decided to vent publicly.

"The first thing I said to Tony when I sat down with him and spoke to him after it was, 'Man, I'm really sorry I put you in that position.' I apologise for the scrum. But when you've watched that scrum, you're looking at a very, very frustrated guy who had told people. That's not the first time he heard all that. It's not the first time lawyers were told all that. And I was just looking for something to be done and nothing got done. So, if you want something done right, you got to do it yourself. And I just didn't approach it in the right manner, but tension was high. I was very, very p****d. I pretty much knew that I had just injured myself again. I was hurt, and I was disappointed. Yeah, it's very easy for me to say I regret that and I handled it the wrong way, 100%," Punk stated.

Following Punk's rant, he was reportedly involved in a backstage altercation alongside Ace Steel with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Reports have noted that Punk threw the first punch and Ace Steel ended up biting Kenny Omega and throwing a chair at Nick Jackson that left him rocked. All five men were suspended following the incident. Punk was stripped of the AEW World Title, while the AEW World Trios Titles that The Elite had just won were also vacated.

The Elite would return at Full Gear 2022, while Punk has been out of action with a torn triceps that he suffered in the main event of All Out. Punk is scheduled to return to AEW on June 17 for the debut episode of Collision and he noted to ESPN that his relationship with Tony Khan is "great."
