CM Punk has apologised to Saudi Arabia over his negative tweet towards The Miz in January 2020.

Punk was booed heavily at the Night of Champions Kickoff event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia ahead of his Undisputed WWE Title match with John Cena. After Punk joined Michael Cole on the stage, a man named Muhammad repeatedly shouted at Punk as fans chanted "shut the f*ck up" at the former WWE Champion. This prompted Punk to apologise to Muhammad and say he loves Saudi Arabia.

"This guy wants me to apologise for a mean tweet I wrote six years ago. Hey, listen, legitimately had nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. I woke up and I was crabby and I wrote a mean tweet to The Miz and I apologise to The Miz. And sir, what's your name? Muhammad? Muhammad, I sincerely apologise to you and to all of Saudi Arabia," Punk said.

"I am not perfect by any means, sometimes as human beings we screw up. The beautiful thing is everything is a lesson learned and now here I am and you have invited me to your country and I'm grateful to be here. Thank you very much."

During an online spat with The Miz in January 2020, Punk told Mike Mizanin to "go suck a blood money covered d**k in Saudi Arabia you f*****g dork." The past tweet and him being booked at Night of Champions led to accusations against CM Punk that he was a hypocrite.

Punk also faced a backlash only hours after landing in Saudi Arabia as a clip of him pushing away a child who wanted a selfie circulated on social media. The likely winner of CM Punk vs. John Cena at Night of Champions has also been revealed.
