Cody Rhodes Comments On Empty Seats At AEW: Dynamite

The American Nightmare speaks...

On Wednesday's episode of Dynamite, Chris Jericho asked Jon Moxley to join The Inner Circle, MJF annoyed more wrestling fans, and The Young Bucks defeated Proud And Powerful in a Texas Street Fight.

This week's episode was broadcast from the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. For those watching on TV, the crowd looked relatively full, but photos circulating on social media have shown that whole sections of the arena were empty.

Many wrestling fans have commented on the images. Some have said the empty seats stem from AEW being a new company, and attendances will continue to improve as the promotion becomes more established within professional wrestling. Others disagree, however, and believe the young promotion was currently enjoying its honeymoon period, and therefore should be selling out arenas across the United States.

AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes addressed the photos on Twitter yesterday. He replied to a fan's tweet, writing: "We had over 4500 folks at 80% utilization. Well above market. Vibrant crowd throughout. We will definitely be back."

Despite Cody's comments, the trend of empty seats looks set to continue. About 40% of tickets for next week's Dynamite in Corpus Christi, Texas are still available. Ticket sales have also been slow for the January 1st episode in Jacksonville, Florida, and the January 8th show in Southaven, Mississippi.
