Cody Rhodes is the 24th King of the Ring, having won the 2025 tournament at Night of Champions.
Rhodes faced his former Legacy stablemate Randy Orton in the final of King of the Ring in what was their first singles match since Orton defeated Cody to end Rhodes' WWE career as part of a storyline in 2013.
Rhodes survived two RKOs in the match, which caused Orton to grab a chair. After referee Charles Robinson retrieved the chair from Orton, The Viper took advantage and exposed the top turnbuckle when the official wasn't looking. It was Rhodes who used the exposed buckle, though, pushing Orton into it after they briefly grappled. He followed up with a second Cross Rhodes for the win.
Rhodes reached the final of King of the Ring by emerging victorious from a first-round four-way against Andrade, Damian Priest, and Shinsuke Nakamura. Cody then defeated Jey Uso in the semi-finals.
Courtesy of his win, Rhodes will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3 from MetLife Stadium. It will be the first time Cody has challenged for the belt since his loss to John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 41.
Rhodes took time off following WrestleMania 41 before returning on the May 24 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event. Cody has continued to feud with Cena, pinning the 17-time world champion in the tag team main event of Money in the Bank.
