WWE Crown Jewel 2024 saw the crowning of the first ever men’s WWE Crown Jewel Champion, with Cody Rhodes claiming the title after winning a hard fought Champion vs. Champion match against World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
It was a back and forth affair between the two main eventers, Gunther vowing to make Rhodes submit to a sleeper hold. Indeed, ‘Der Ring General’ went for the hold on several occasions, but could not put Rhodes away.
Rhodes fired back, hitting Gunther with a series of Crossrhodes, Cody cutters, Disaster Kicks, everything in his arsenal. Time and again Gunther would lock in the sleeper, and it all looked over when he caught Rhodes mid Cody Cutter, but Rhodes rolled through to pin Gunther a la Bret Hart at WrestleMania 8, and win the Crown Jewel Championship.
Gunther offered his hand to Rhodes which Cody accepted but he could not hide his anger at losing.
Several representatives of the Saudi Arabia Sports Authority and Triple H then came to the ring to present Rhodes with the Crown Jewel Championship, with Liv Morgan coming back out as both champs held up all the gold.
