Conflicting Reports On Legitimacy Of Rey Mysterio's SmackDown Injury

Rey Mysterio's injury may be part of a storyline, and it may not be

On last night’s SmackDown during the United States Championship number one contender’s bout between Latino World Order members Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar, the match ended when Escobar hit a suicide dive with Mysterio’s head seemingly colliding with the floor. The match came to a halt, with Escobar being awarded the win.

There have been conflicting reports on this injury over the night. With the cameras not turning away from the scene, and due to Mysterio being able to reach his feet to congratulate Escobar on the victory, the injury may in fact not be an injury at all. A report from the WRKD Wrestling Twitter account has given some minor insight;

“For those concerned, Rey Mysterio’s injury on SmackDown is a storyline. WWE has gone on to share during SmackDown that they’ll “provide updates on Rey” via their social channels this weekend.”

However, a report from Fightful Select has indicated that the injury is legit.

"Fightful sources confirmed late Friday that Rey Mysterios spot on Smackdown was not storyline as originally suspected. We've learned that Santos Escobar was actually supposed to win the match clean, and an audible was called and the match was ended."

It remains to be seen whether this injury was real or part of a storyline.
