WWE have confirmed that KUSHIDA will defend the NXT Cruiserweight Championship against Roderick Strong on next week's NXT 2.0.

The bout was made official after this week's first episode in the new era of NXT as Strong and Malcolm Bivens introduced Ivy Nile as the newest member of the Diamond Mine.

While Bivens cut a promo, KUSHIDA made his way out onto the stage and said the Diamond Mine mouthpiece speaks too much before declaring himself ready to fight. The match between KUSHIDA and Strong was then confirmed.

The math between KUSHIDA and Strong was originally scheduled for the August 17 episode of NXT, but the reigning champion was declared not medically cleared to compete on the day of the show. KUSHIDA confirmed last week that his absence was due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Strong targeted KUSHIDA upon his return to WWE NXT in June, introducing the WWE audience to the Diamond Mine at the same time.

The match between Strong and KUSHIDA is the only bout confirmed for next week's NXT as of writing.
