Current Champion Re-Signs With NJPW

A current champion has re-signed with NJPW

New Japan Pro-Wrestling are currently in the midst of a big rebuilding phase, with the historic puro promotion looking to build the next generation of stars, after the exit of Kazuchika Okada, and the visibly advancing years of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito.

NJPW will no doubt be buoyed by the re-signing of a current champion, with Fightful Select reporting that current IWGP Tag Team Champion and NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Team Champion Shane Haste has put pen to paper on a new deal with the company.

Haste is a cornerstone of NJPW’s TMDK stable, having recently won the tag titles alongside Mikey Nicholls with a victory over Bullet Club’s KENTA and Chase Owens at NJPW Dominion on June 9. The Australian previously wrestled in WWE as Shane Thorne alongside Nicholls (as Nick Miller) as TM-61, later becoming Slapjack as part of Retribution on the main roster.

As part of TMDK, Haste has also recently made several appearances for All Elite Wrestling, as part of AEW’s strong working relationship with NJPW. Haste and TMDK member Robbie Eagles lost to Orange Cassidy and Tomohiro Ishii on the June 29 edition of AEW Collision.
