DDP Criticises Tony Khan For Allowing Cody Rhodes To Depart AEW For WWE

Tony Khan allowing Cody Rhodes to depart AEW for WWE was a mistake according to DDP

The tail-end of Cody Rhodes’ run in All Elite Wrestling saw ‘The American Nightmare’ roundly booed by swathes of the audience amidst calls for a heel turn, but mere months after this, Rhodes had departed the company for WWE where he instantly became one of the top babyfaces in the entire company.

Rhodes exiting AEW was a massive shock to the wrestling industry, and AEW’s loss was certainly WWE’s gain, with Rhodes set to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 39.

Now, Rhodes’ close friend Diamond Dallas Page has given his take on the situation during a conversation with Inside The Ropes, criticising AEW President Tony Khan for letting such a coveted commodity slip through his fingers:

"... If I was Tony Khan, I never would have let him go. To me, it was like when Eric Bischoff let go of Stone Cold Steve Austin and I was like 'Noooo, not him, not him' and we all know what happened there," remarked DDP.

Steve Austin was famously fired by WCW in 1995, and would soon go on to become the biggest star in pro-wrestling history after signing with WWF later that year. Time will only tell if Cody Rhodes will go on to have such an impact in WWE.
