Drew McIntyre Comments On A Potential CM Punk WWE Return

Drew McIntyre was asked about a possible return to WWE for CM Punk, following the latter's AEW firing.

WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre recently commented on a potential CM Punk return to WWE.

The Scottish Superstar didn't give much away regarding his personal opinion on Punk. Speaking to Sportskeeda WrestleBinge as part of media commitments surrounding the WWE Superstar Spectacle event in Hyderabad, India, McIntyre said the following:

"I don’t make those decisions. I watch what I say in interviews, but [Punk] is certainly controversial and he gets people talking. I’ll leave it at that.”

Drew and Punk have never met in singles action, their only in-ring involvement with each other in WWE limited to multi-man tag matches, Royal Rumbles and battle royals.

CM Punk was recently fired by AEW, days after competing in the opening match of the promotion's All In show at Wembley Stadium in London, England. There he defeated Samoa Joe, a match which took place minutes after a backstage confrontation between Punk and Jack Perry (formerly known as Jungle Boy.)

This incident is thought to have sparked AEW's decision to terminate Punk's contract. Although it doesn't mention Perry specifically, the promotion's official statement on the matter reads:

"The termination follows a weeklong internal investigation of an incident occurring back stage at AEW - All In London on Sunday August 27. Following the investigation, the AEW Discipline Committee met and later convened with outside legal counsel before making a unanimous recommendation to [Tony Khan] that CM Punk be terminated with cause."
