Drew McIntyre Earns WWE Universal Title Match At Clash At The Castle

Who will McIntyre face?

Drew McIntyre will challenge for the WWE Universal championship at Clash at the Castle in September, as a result of his win over Sheamus on Friday night's episode of SmackDown in Atlanta.

McIntyre defeated Sheamus in what was billed as a "Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook", with shillelaghs and tables among the weaponry on hand. McIntyre scored the win after hitting the Claymore.

With the win, McIntyre will face the Undisputed WWE Universal champion at the Clash, be it current champion Roman Reigns, or Reigns' SummerSlam opponent, Brock Lesnar.

McIntyre challenged Reigns for a title match at the Clash all the way back on June 3, during an episode of SmackDown.

McIntyre has never held the Universal title, but is a former two-time WWE champion, having won the title twice in 2020 (from Lesnar at WrestleMania 36, and from Orton on an episode of Raw). Neither title win took place in front of a live crowd.

WWE Clash at the Castle takes place Saturday, September 3 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff. No other matches have been announced for the card.
