The last few months have seen a big development in WWE’s relationship with the wider wrestling world, with a working relationship starting with TNA, a partnership forming with the new Marigold promotion, and a prospective new alliance with Pro Wrestling NOAH on the horizon. Not just that, but WWE wrestlers have been granted some opportunities here and there to compete outside of WWE.

It isn’t unheard of for WWE wrestlers to appear at smaller indie promotions, especially during the NXT black & gold era, but it has certainly become less frequent in more recent years. However, with WWE in Scotland for Clash At The Castle weekend, the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship Drew McIntyre paid a surprise visit to ICW at their After Hours event.

McIntyre formerly appeared in ICW, and was even their very first world champion in 2006. He would later return to the promotion after his WWE release in 2014. He embraced current champion Jack Jester, who was in the ring prior to McIntyre’s surprise visit, before cutting a promo for the surprised fans in attendance. McIntyre posted fan footage on his X account of his appearance.
