Drew McIntyre Says There Was 'Some Smoke And Fire' To Rumours During His WWE Hiatus
Drew McIntyre was linked to a move away from WWE earlier this year
After months of speculation about his future, Drew McIntyre returned to the WWE at Money in the Bank on July 1, staring down GUNTHER, and seemingly putting an end to chatter about his next move.
McIntyre was rumoured to be heading out of the door after contract negotiations with WWE had stalled, with McIntyre taking an extended absence from the company after WrestleMania 39 due to various injuries. McIntyre's deal is still scheduled to expire in early 2024, although injury time could keep him with the company beyond WrestleMania 40.
‘Irn Dru’ recently spoke with TMZ, saying the following about his time away from the company: “It was cool getting a break. There was a lot of rumours and headlines on the internet when I was out. Probably about 50 different things. It's amazing, the stories out there when you're not on TV. People talk. There might have been some smoke and fire with a few of them, but it was nice people were talking about me when I wasn't there. I did have to get things fixed physically. Unlike injuries I've had in the past, there was no rehab involved, so I was able to enjoy time at home,” revealed McIntyre.
Drew is set to face GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam on August 5.
