Edge Wants To Finish His Story, Win The WWE World Heavyweight Title

Finishing stories has been the prevalent theme within WWE in 2023, notably through Cody Rhodes' quest to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, and now Edge wants to finish his story and capture the new WWE World Heavyweight Title.

The WWE Hall of Famer has repeatedly stated over the past year that his time left in the squared circle is limited, but he will have one more chance to win a world title in WWE as he is part of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament. Edge will face AJ Styles and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat on SmackDown. If he wins, he will face the winner of Austin Theory vs. Bobby Lashley vs. Sheamus later in the show before potentially taking on Seth Rollins for the new big gold belt at Night of Champions on May 27.

Speaking about the upcoming tournament on Twitter, Edge said he wants to end his career on the right note this time and The Rated-R Superstar pitched winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title and then retiring when he loses the belt. 

"Some people have been running around saying they are going to finish their stories, and good for them. But it made me think a little bit about my story. The introduction of the WWE Heavyweight Championship, if I look at that thing it even looks like the title that I never lost, it looks like Big Gold. 12 years ago I was forced to give that thing up, never had a chance to get it back. Now, I have a chance and it all comes full circle," Edge began.

"This ride, it's going to end sooner than later, let's face it, we all know that. I gotta get this done. It's the last thing to do, it's the period on the end of the sentence. It's the last sentence in the book. All of you that are watching this, I assume you've been with me on this ride and I really appreciate it. It's going to end soon and I gotta end it right this time and there is no better way to finish it than to win the World Heavyweight Championship and then when I lose it, that's it, I'm done. So Rey, AJ, bring your best tomorrow, I know you will. Can't wait to see you in there, to be honest. Let's tear it up."

Edge was one of the belt's top champions during the original WWE World Heavyweight Championship's run in WWE from 2002 until 2013, holding the title a record seven times over 409 days. Only Batista and Triple H held the title for longer. 

Edge retired as World Heavyweight Champion in 2011 due to serious neck issues. He came out of retirement in January 2020.
