Former WWE Announcer Tom Phillips Reveals New Role

Phillips has entered the College Football world

Tom Phillips has landed a new job following his WWE release.

Phillips joined WWE in 2012 and spent eight years with the company before his release in May 2021. He held a number of announcing roles on WWE TV, working on every modern show including Raw, SmackDown, NXT and NXT UK. At the time of his departure, Phillips was overseeing special WWE projects on Peacock while commentating on 205 Live.

After his release, Phillips, now going by his real name Tom Hannifan, revealed he was open to podcasting, especially if he was able to talk about college football.

That is exactly what Hannifan will be doing going forward and he announced recently that he will be hosting 'Paydirt: A Penn State Football Podcast' with former NFL, XFL and Penn State Quarterback Matt McGloin. The new podcast on the Bleav Podcast Network will cover Penn State Football and the Big 10 Conference every week of the year and is set to debut on August 9.

Penn State is Hannifan's alma mater, where he majored in broadcast journalism. He was also involved with the student-run COMRadio during his time at the university.
