Vince McMahon has been at the forefront of a sexual abuse scandal following a lawsuit filed by former employee Janel Grant, who revealed alleged sex trafficking, abuse, and more in the workplace within WWE. More of WWE’s alleged toxic culture looks as though it is being uncovered following a piece in The Rolling Stone by Krystie Lee Yandoli, whose article shared stories from several former WWE writers.

Several of the female writers who were approached, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed some of the inappropriate situations they found themselves in during their time in the WWE writer’s room, noting that they became very conscious of their gender due to treatment by male co-workers. One individual explained that comments would be made about her outfits, in addition to claims about being touched by others in the room:

“They would touch me where they would have me come closer [to them]. They would pull me by my waist to come somewhere or move closer to them. I’m just super aware that it’s kind of close to my butt and most people don’t touch me by the waist ever. I thought, ‘This is strange.’”

Another writer explained that she felt uncomfortable with the over-sexualisation of female performers, and revealed feelings of not being safe at work. It was noted that several women’s writers complained about their experiences to WWE HR, explaining unsafe feelings, though those who attended this meeting claimed that WWE did not take it seriously and any worries or concerns brought up were swiftly ignored.

Former WWE employee Charly Caruso revealed just this week there were instances in WWE where she felt like she should have gone to HR, but ultimately did not.
