Further Confirmation Of WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Return Revealed

More on the potential return of WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

WWE are set to return to NBC for a live special, prompting rumours of the return of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

It seems that this is the direction WWE are taking for the as-yet-unannounced live special, with WWE filing a trademark on September 9 for the name ‘Saturday Night’s Main Event’, with the trademark application listed as covering the following items:

“Clothing, namely, tops, shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, hoodies; outerwear, namely, coats; bottoms, pants, shorts, underwear, dresses, pyjamas, lingerie, clothing ties, scarves, gloves, swimwear; Halloween and masquerade costumes; footwear, namely, shoes, sneakers, slippers, flip flops, boots; headwear, namely, hats, caps; wrist bands as clothing; bandanas.”

A recent report claimed that WWE and NBCUniversal are set to partner on four live specials a year as part of the deal to bring SmackDown back to USA Network from Fox. The original Saturday Night’s Main Event specials in the 1980s were massive ratings hits for NBC, and were one of the main instruments of WWE’s successful push into the mainstream during the ‘Rock & Wrestling Era’.

The Saturday Night’s Main Event branding was brought out of retirement for several specials in the mid-2000s.
