Bryan Danielson Vs. Nigel McGuinness Official For AEW Dynamite Grand Slam
AEW Dynamite Grand Slam might feature Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness
Sep 12, 2024
Bryan Danielson is off TV whilst recuperating from the heinous attack at the hands of the Blackpool Combat Club at All Out, but it seems as though Danielson has more to worry about than Jon Moxley and co., as Nigel McGuinness is also coming for the AEW World Champion.
After Moxley confronted Darby Allin on the September 11 Dynamite and convinced Darby to put his AEW World Championship shot on the line at Grand Slam on September 25, it left Danielson without an opponent for the fourth annual Arthur Ashe Stadium Show. McGuinness took the mic later in the broadcast and revealed that he will instead take on Danielson at Grand Slam - should Danielson be cleared to compete.
McGuinness has made no secret of his contempt for Danielson, constantly calling out the ‘Clamdigger’ whilst sitting in AEW’s commentary booth. The two had some notable wars in Ring of Honor, including a bloody clash in the Liverpool Olympia in 2006 which saw Danielson walk out with both the ROH World and Pure championships.
Interestingly, the last time the two faced each other was at ROH Glory by Honor VIII, on September 26, 2009 - almost 15 years to the day before their potential Grand Slam clash. Like Glory by Honor VIII, Grand Slam will also take place in New York.
For McGuinness, a match at Grand Slam will be his first since coming out of retirement at All In Wembley Stadium in August, and will be his first singles match since 2011.
