Speculation about the future of Lucha Underground was fuelled several weeks ago after the Lucha Undergound X/Twitter account posted an AI video of a Lucha Libre mask, with it being the first post from the account since 2019.

The short clip went viral as many hoped for a potential revival of the cult classic series, but reports quickly noted that the tease was due to plans for past episodes of Lucha Underground to be made available, with El Rey Network's Chief Creative Officer Skip Chaisson reportedly saying as much. It has been difficult to watch the show legally for several years.

In an update on the situation, Fightful Select has reported the belief amongst those in pro wrestling they have spoken to is that the tease around Lucha Underground was done to get people talking about the promotion ahead of a YouTube channel based around Lucha Underground going live.

MGM and Amazon hold a controlling interest in Lucha Underground, with Amazon having acquired MGM in 2022. The belief is Amazon are happy with the library and there hasn't been any major interest from MGM/Amazon in selling the library despite past enquiries about a sale.

Lucha Underground, which aired from October 2014 until November 2018, was produced by United Artists, MGM Television, and One Three Media and was broadcast on the El Rey Network in the United States. The show had a cult following and featured the likes of Rey Mysterio, Swerve Strickland, Penta, Rey Fenix, El Mesias, Ricochet, Johnny TV, Brian Cage, and Drago.
