There has been major speculation about the future of Lucha Underground ever since the promotion's X/Twitter account posted for the first time since 2019 on April 24, 2026. The post was simply an AI video of a Lucha Libre mask which ended with a tease of further reveals.

The short clip immediately went viral with 3 million views and 33,000 likes on X/Twitter, with many hoping for a potential revival of the cult series.

In an update on the reason for the tease, though, Justin Harvey noted on Lucha Central's MMMshow that El Rey Network's Chief Creative Officer Skip Chaisson has told him the old episodes of Lucha Underground will be made available.

"One of the people that got back to me was, in fact, Skip Chaisson who's been on the show before. He's a great guy and I'm not trying to ruin his surprise of whatever he's going to do with the property, but it looks like for now what Lucha Underground is going to do is put the old show back out in some form," Harvey said.

"I don't know all of the details to it, but it looks like enough rights have gone to one place, which is the problem with Lucha Underground is that too many rights are in too many different places, but at least the rights to broadcast the show that has not been in circulation anywhere, I think the only place you can get it right now is to buy it through Amazon. It seems like it is going to come back in some form. I'm going to assume on YouTube. That's where they made the announcement, they brought the channel back, it's gone live. That is the word coming from the creative content officer of El Rey that the property is coming back in some of syndication for the old episodes. That's the scoop. That's it."

Produced by United Artists, MGM Television, and One Three Media, Lucha Underground aired from October 2014 until November 2018 on the El Rey Network in the United States.

The show developed a cult following and featured the likes of Penta, Rey Fenix, El Mesias (as Mil Muertes), Ricochet (as Prince Puma), Brian Cage, Johnny TV (as Johnny Mundo), Santos Escobar (as King Cuerno), Drago, Aero Star, Luchasaurus (as Vibora), Chelsea Green (as Reklusa), Swerve Strickland (as Killshot), and Jeff Cobb (as Matanza Cueto). Rey Mysterio also appeared in season two and season three of the show.

The show has been difficult to watch legally for several years.
