Glacier Recalls WCW Almost Being Sued Over His Resemblance To Mortal Kombat's Sub-Zero

Glacier and WCW almost got sued by the producers of Mortal Kombat

When WCW unleashed its ‘Blood Runs Cold’ universe on the world in 1996, even the most casual of gamers couldn’t help but notice the similarities between this new cast of characters and that of the Mortal Kombat franchise.

In particular, the standout character of the group Glacier bore more than a passing resemblance to Sub-Zero, especially his appearance in MKIII. As Glacier revealed on The False Finish, his gimmick caught the attention of Midway Games, who threatened a lawsuit:

"I started off... my first outfit was [black and blue] like Sub-Zero, so much so that my career was almost very short-lived," Glacier said, noting how he proposed changing his look to avoid further copyright infringement.

Shortly after Glacier’s NITRO debut on September 16 1996, Midway allegedly filed a lawsuit, with Glacier pulled from TV in October until December due to the lawsuit.

Despite this, the Glacier character remained part of WCW, with a lot of his theatrics toned down, with the cult star even making it into the WCW/NWO Revenge video game for the N64.
