Gunther Loses First Singles Match On The WWE Main Roster During Raw

Gunther loses on WWE Raw, suffering his first main roster defeat in the process

While not pinned, Gunther suffered his first singles loss in over a year on the August 21 episode of Monday Night Raw.

The Intercontinental Champion went one-on-one with Chad Gable on Raw and the two competitors went back-and-forth in an even contest. It was Chad Gable who would shockingly pick up the win, though, after he defeated Gunther by count-out following a German Suplex over the barricade from the Alpha Academy member.

This was ultimately Gunther's first singles loss on the main roster. The leader of Imperium hadn't been defeated since he unsuccessfully challenged Bron Breakker for the NXT Championship on the April 5, 2022 episode of NXT. Gunther moved to the main roster only days later.

Gunther and Gable have been feuding since before SummerSlam, with Gable beating Gunther's five-minute challenge on July 31. Gunther would ultimately emerge victorious after the time limit was extended.

Gunther has been Intercontinental Champion for 438 days. He is currently on course to break The Honky Tonk Man's record-setting reign of 454 days in the coming weeks.
