Hikaru Shida has been absent from AEW programming since all the way back in November of 2024 where she lost in singles action to Kris Statlander on an episode of Dynamite. It was noted in the months since that Shida needed to return to Japan to renew a visa - a process that has been long. It was also revealed that during her absence from AEW and from the US, Kenny Omega was cat-sitting for her.
The multi-time AEW Women’s World Champion spoke on a YouTube stream to provide an update after a fan asked if she'd be returning soon, and she provided an unfortunate update that the visa process was still ongoing and taking a long time.
"I really hope to. Visa, especially nowadays, it's getting hard. AEW has so many wrestlers and the lawyer has to do so many things. I know it takes time. I hope I can go back to AEW soon. For now, I am enjoying my stay in Japan and getting more energy to wrestle in the US again. I'm looking forward to my comeback. Please wait and I'm so glad if you support me."
During her AEW hiatus, Shida has continued wrestling in Japan in the meantime.
