Hiroshi Tanahashi To Replace Will Ospreay For IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United

Tanahashi has stepped in to replace Ospreay on the show

New Japan Pro-Wrestling's Hiroshi Tanahashi will replace the injured Will Ospreay at the upcoming NJPW x IMPACT Multiverse United show.

The Aerial Assassin was originally scheduled to face "Speedball" Mike Bailey, but has had to pull out. Recent reports indicate Ospreay's shoulder injury is worse than initially feared.

It was previously reported that Tanahashi was being considered as a 'backup plan', should Ospreay be unable to perform.

In their description for the new matchup, IMPACT wrote

"Mike Bailey's original opponent, Will Ospreay, will be unable to compete at Multiverse United due to injury. Instead, Bailey will go one-on-one with New Japan Pro-Wrestling legend Hiroshi Tanahashi in what can only be described as a dream match. After competing in IMPACT Wrestling during the early stages of his career, Tanahashi steps into the ring with Bailey for the first time ever, who has taken IMPACT Wrestling by storm."

The eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion wrestled a handful of matches for IMPACT (then known as TNA) earlier in his career, including a dream match with AJ Styles at Final Resolution 2006.

Multiverse United will take place on Thursday, March 30. It will air live on FITE.
