Hiroshi Tanahashi To Still Wrestle Alongside Duties As NJPW President

Hiroshi Tanahashi still wants to become world champion despite becoming NJPW president

Hiroshi Tanahashi is the new president of New Japan Pro Wrestling, but that doesn’t mean his time between the ropes is at an end. The company held a press conference yesterday to speak on the hierarchy changes within the company, which sees him take on a huge role, and Tanahashi discussed what his professional wrestling career would look like going forwards.

“As an active wrestler I still haven't won the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship and there is a lot left undone, but an Ace can be an Ace on both sides of the fence, I thought. There's an extent to where I have to live in this dual role a bit to find out just what it's like, and how much I can handle. But I've never been tired, so I think I'll be fine.”

Tanahashi noted that he would be on the road with NJPW, but when the company is back in Tokyo, he will be in the office for his duties as the company’s president. He outlined many of the goals for the company going forwards such as selling out the Tokyo Dome, hosting more world title matches, growing markets, and more.
