House Of Black Reject Claim They Don't Do Jobs In AEW

House of Black defend themselves from a Dave Meltzer claim

House of Black have defended themselves on social media.

Brody King, Malakai Black, and Buddy Matthews faced FTR and Daniel Garcia in an Escape The Cage Elimination Match on the January 27 episode of AEW Collision. Match graphics originally promoted the match as a Steel Cage Match, however, which ultimately led to criticism from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, who expressed his opinion that House of Black "never do jobs" and Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews simply want to go back to WWE.

"One of the things I was thinking watching this is like, 'These frickin' House of Black guys never do jobs.' And here's the other thing... What if they win this match? And I was going, 'You know, two of those three guys are going to WWE. I mean, they're going. As soon as they can go, they're gone. Even though they were treated like s**t in WWE and they never do jobs here, they're still going back to WWE. And my thought is kind of like why do you keep putting them over because we know they're leaving? But there you go," Meltzer said.

Meltzer's comments were shared rapidly on social media and ultimately received a response from House of Black, with Buddy Matthews writing: "For a 'Reporter' he doesn't know much of do ANY research! lol."

Brody King, meanwhile, tweeted: "Funny how someone's opinion just becomes fact because they've been watching wrestling a long time. The format and stipulation of the cage match was always what it was going to be. It's not our fault the wording on the graphic changed."

AEW official Will Washington then confirmed the match was always supposed to be contested under escape the cage rules but the graphic was altered for clarity. Steel Cage matches in AEW typically can only be won by pinfall or submission.

"I usually don't comment on stuff like this, but before this idea spreads or gets out of hand, the wording change was just for clarity. It was absolutely escape rules when the first match graphic dropped," Washington wrote.

The perception has long been that House of Black refuse to lose in All Elite Wrestling, with Malakai Black claiming that was not the case earlier this year. The faction ultimately lost to FTR and Daniel Garcia on Saturday night.

Members of the faction are under contract for multiple years but Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews did reportedly try and force their way out of All Elite Wrestling in 2022 following alleged contract tampering from WWE.
