The biggest mystery in AEW right now is the identity of the mysterious “Devil” and all his masked cronies (two of whom recently defeated MJF to become the new ROH World Tag Team Champions on AEW Dynamite).
One of the men running around in masks has now been revealed by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who stated that Shawn Spears was under one of the masks at a recent TV taping. Spears recently revealed that he would be leaving AEW upon the expiration of his deal at the turn of the new year, so this means he will not be continuing in his role as a masked lackey.
Whether or not Spears was in wider plans to continue being used as one of the “Devil’s masked men” is unclear, though it would make sense given his history with MJF on AEW programming. Spears and MJF were both previously members of The Pinnacle faction, with Spears later becoming a sidekick for MJF, being donned as his “accountabilibuddy”. It still isn’t known who the rest of the masked villains are.
