MJF On Fans Growing Tired Of His Run: No One Stays Hot Forever

MJF has acknowledged fans growing tired of his AEW run

It has been hard to ignore some of the criticism thrown in the direction of AEW in recent months, specifically when it comes to the main event scene. MJF has been AEW World Champion for over a year now in a run which has seen a natural babyface turn, match of the year candidates with Bryan Danielson & Kenny Omega, a heavily critiqued main event title match with Jay White, and a never-ending feud with “The Devil”.

The latter in particular has seen fans and critics alike speak negatively on AEW. In a piece for The Players Tribune, MJF talked about a lot of different things, and he did touch on the fact that fans are growing tired of his current run.

“I know our fans are a little tired of this run I’ve been on. For the first time since this company started, I know there’s some MJF fatigue. Which is fine, by the way — no one stays hot forever.”

MJF does still receive big reactions in the arena, but of course many wrestlers go through waves of momentum, and the AEW World Champion is on a dip. MJF would go on to talk about how tired he is and beaten up he’s feeling, which may have contributed to his potentially weaker performances.

"I’m tired. I know that’s not what you’re supposed to say as a professional wrestler — especially not before a big world title defense in your hometown. I know I should take my vitamins, brother, order up an expensive coffee to the five-star hotel room I’m staying in (thanks, Tony), and end this article by cutting an ’80s good guy promo about the evil Samoa Joe. Let’s sell some Pay-Per-Views!!!!!!! But I don’t know, man. I’m just so, so, so tired. That’s the God’s honest truth. My hip is a mess. My arm won’t lift above my head. I’m on painkillers, which are not my thing. I can’t sleep.”

MJF defends his AEW World Title against Samoa Joe at the Worlds End PPV later tonight, where it is all but expected that “The Devil’s” identity will be unveiled.
