IMPACT Wrestling held their third pay per view event of 2023, broadcasting Slammiversary from Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

It was a show hampered by injury in the run-up to the event, but will be forever remembered for several surprises, and a whole host of game changing title changes.

So what happened at IMPACT Slammiversary 2023? Keep reading for all the results.

The Death Dollz & Jody Threat def. Jai Vidal, Savannah Evans, & Gisele Shaw - Pre-show

Jai Vidal tried to intimidate Jessicka but ended up getting pummelled, and Gisele Shaw didn’t have much better luck as the faces started the match strongly. Courtney Rush came into the bout and went after Vidal on the floor, but was blindsided by Savannah Evans, allowing the heels to take the advantage.

Shaw and her Shawtourage kept Rush isolated, utilising quick tags to keep the Death Doll in peril, but she managed to fight out of peril, and get the hot tag to Ontario’s own Jody Threat who ran wild to a great reaction. Threat took Shaw out with a beautiful exploder, then German suplexed Vidal as Rush - who had blindtagged in - crushed Vidal with a spear for the win.

Kenny King def. Joe Hendry (c) - Digital Media Championship - Pre-show

Windsor said his name and he appeared, as Joe Hendry looked to extend his Digital Media Championship reign against ‘former male stripper’ Kenny King. Hendry cut a promo pre-match putting himself over as only he could, whilst once again reminding the crowd of King’s past.

An incensed King tried to rush Hendry, but he was too hot headed and made mistakes, allowing Hendry to easily take charge in the bout. King soon found his way into the bout, and his anger was unleashed on the champ, even strangling Hendry with a Chippendales bowtie as the ref was distracted. Joe powered up out of a King submission attempt, hitting a huge fallaway slam before mocking King with some Rick Rude-esque hip swivelling. King went for a top rope attack but was caught mid-air in a goozle, and received a Standing Ovation for two. King accidentally took out Sheldon Jean with a tope, but Jean regrouped to distract Hendry, allowing King to roll up Joe and get his feet on the ropes to steal the Digital Media Championship.

KUSHIDA def. Mike Bailey, Jonathan Gresham, Angels, Kevin Knight, & Jake Something - Ultimate X Match

The competitors were ready to kick off as Jake Something made his return to IMPACT and inserted himself into the bout before the bell rang. Something used his power advantage to dominate the early part of this match, catching Kevin Knight from the X to powerbomb him out of the ring onto the other four wrestlers. Everyone soon regrouped, and finally took Something out in a group effort.

Knight and KUSHIDA teamed up to the surprise of no-one, with Bailey and Gresham forming an uneasy alliance. The action was frenetic, as ‘Speedball’ hit Something with an inside/out moonsault. Angels put an end to the Gresham/Bailey partnership with a big double Spanish Fly, but was caught in an electric chair by KUSHIDA, as Knight hit a Doomsday Dropkick to send Angels to the floor.

Bailey made the first concrete ascent up the truss, but hit a huge Ultimate Moonsault to the floor as the crowd duly serenaded him with ‘holy s***’ chants. Bailey quickly recovered, but Angels wailed on him with a steel chair to send him flying, as Angels went on a chair frenzy around the ring. Knight tried to meet Angels on the cables but ate a Poison Frankensteiner, with Angels once again left to attempt the X. After taking out Something, Angels and KUSHIDA found themselves on the cables, with Bailey in pursuit. Angels took down Bailey with a lowblow, but KUSHIDA managed to take Angels out, then retrieved the X to win a guaranteed future X Division Championship shot.

Masha Slamovich & Killer Kelly def. The Coven (c) - Knockouts World Tag Team Championships

Killer Kelly and Taylor Wilde kicked off, with Kelly laughing off a Wilde slap, before luring in Killyn King and Masha Slamovich as the challengers bumrushed the champs. Kelly and Masha established their dominance early on, but Wilde soon fought back, as The Coven showed their tag experience, keeping Slamovich at bay with some tandem offence. Slamovich fought back with an aggressive double stomp to King before tagging in Kelly - this is the first match where Masha and Kelly have tagged together.

The Coven once again brought the match into their favour as Wilde and King exchanged quick tags to keep Kelly on the back foot. King got a two after crushing Kelly with double knees in the corner, then followed up with a Bret’s rope Senton, but Kelly rolled out of the way as King met nothing but mat. Hot tag to Slamovich as Masha ran Wilde on Wilde and King, crushing Taylor with a big spinwheel kick for two. King took out Kelly as The Coven hit a beautiful double knee/German suplex combo on Masha.Kelly ran back in to fold Wilde with a butterfly suplex into the corner as Masha took King down with a missile dropkick. Wilde fired back and nailed Witch’s Wrath on Masha but only got two, then Kelly gripped King as Masha hit the Snowplow on Wilde for the win and the titles.

Scott D’Amore & Eric Young def. Deaner & Bully Ray - Darren McCarty as Special Enforcer

Loud Eric Young chants as the former IMPACT World Champion made his return to IMPACT, as Team Canada reformed, with D’Amore and Young fired up in D’Amore’s hometown as the former ‘Super Eric’ seemingly returned from the dead.

EY and Bully tangled as a shocked Deaner looked on, but when D’Amore tagged in Bully wanted no part, and brought Deaner into the fray. D’Amore showed he hasn’t missed a step in the ring, levelling Deaner with a lovely calf kick and woring over The Design leader on the mat. 3DB by EY and D’Amore on Deaner, as Team Canada utilised quick tags to establish their footing in the match, as special enforcer Darren McCarty watched on. D’Amore hit a D’Lo Brown Skyhigh then went for a Canadian Destroyer, but as Kon tried to enter the fray McCarty got overzealous and tried to rush the ring, allowing Deaner to gain the advantage.

Bully ray took the fight to the floor, antagonising D’Amore’s mother on the front row. The Windsor crowd rallied D’Amore by singing ‘O Canada’, but Bully ray flagrantly kicked D’Amore in the groin looking for the DQ. EY pleaded with the ref to keep the match going and not give Bully the satisfaction. Ray got in the ref’s face, leading the ref to take his shirt off and leave the bout, with McCarty stepping into the vacant ref’s position for the match. D’Amore crushed Bully with a spear then made the hot tag to EY who ran wild on his former protege Deaner, coming close with a big piledriver as Kon pulled McCarty to the floor. Former Team Canada member A1 hopped the rail to take Kon down, as McCarty hit Bully with a stunner, allowing D’Amore to hit the old Dudleyz wazzup headbutt to Bully’s ‘yambag’. The Dudley parody continued as Eric got the tables, with D’Amore and McCarty hitting a double chokeslam on Bully through the wood. Deaner went for a hockey stick shot but ate a Canadian Destroyer from the boss, as Eric Young hit a pitch perfect elbow drop for the win.

Lio Rush def. Chris Sabin (c) - X-Division Championship

Lio Rush rushed Sabin mid-entrance, hitting the champ with a cartwheel kick to the face and a tope, with refs tending to Sabin who was complaining of a head injury. Looked like Rush may have collided head-to-head with Sabin on the tope suicida. Sabin ignored doctor’s advice to slowly make his way to the ring, Rush again flying out of the traps to take Sabin down as the bell rang. High velocity tornado kick by Rush and the Final Hour frogsplash, but Sabin kicked out at two when all seemed lost. A second Final Hour frogsplash from Rush and we have a new X Division Champion.

Gia Miller caught up with Alex Shelley backstage, asking if the Machine Gun era was coming to an end, as Shelley silently walked away.

Subculture def. ABC (c) Sami Callihan & Rich Swann, & Brian Myers & Moose - IMPACT World Tag Team Championships Four-Way Match

Kick off with rapid exchanges between Chris Bey and Mark Andrews, as ABC looked to be the first champions tonight to leave with their gold. Flash Morgan Webster soon made his way into the match as Subculture used their speed to peg Ace Austin back, before IMPACT World Champion Rich Swann tagged in to take Flash down.

Sami Callihan looked to build some momentum, but Myers and Moose slowed the action down, as all hell looked to break loose. Swann crushed Myers on the floor with a cannonball, before Moose decimated Bey with an apron powerbomb from a tope attempt. In ring Callihan took Flash up a Spicolli Drived him to the outside on top of everyone on the floor. Callihan and Swann were left alone in the ring with Webster, taking Flash down with tandem offence. Webster avoided a 450 from Swann as ABC came back in, getting a nearfall from a Cuththroat neckbreaker. Again Myers and Moose fought their way into the match with stereo powerbombs on the champs, but Andrews came out of nowhere to halt their momentum, taking Moose down with a Stundog Millionaire. Nearfall for Webster after a senton onto Moose, and the ref lost all control of the match. Bodies were flying all over the place and a parade of heavy strikes flew out, with Bey and Swann teaming to hit a double cutter on a triple-jumping Moose as everyone lay flat out.

ABC found themselves back on their feet first, hitting Art of Finesse on Webster, but Myers blindtagged himself in meaning ABC couldn’t make the tag. The Rascalz rushed ABC on the floor, as Mark Andrews hit a Shooting Star Press on Myers to get the win and the titles. All change in IMPACT tonight it seems.

Eddie Edwards def. Frankie Kazarian

A personal grudge match, as Eddie Edwards and Frankie Kazarian went into Slammiversary one win apiece, each man hoping to come out with the rubber win. Eddie and Kaz were neck-and-neck in the opening exchanges, but Alisha Edwards managed to make an early difference, tripping Kaz as Eddie looked to capitalise. Traci brooks tripped Eddie as everything was rendered even once more, Kaz capitalising with a backstabber on the former IMPACT World Champion.

The fight soon spilled to the outside, with Alisha talking trash to Kaz. Back in ring, a perfect overhead belly-to-belly took Kaz down, with Eddie following up with a series of strikes before Kaz levelled Eddie with a Kurt Angle-esque release German suplex, Edwards landing flush on his stomach. A fired up Kazarian hit a crisp diving hurricanrana to the floor, as Alisha struck Kaz in the plums. Traci stared Alisha down, but this was enough of a distraction to allow Edwards to crush Kaz with a tope suicida.

Back in ring, Kaz fired back with a series of strikes and a big springboard legdrop for two, but when he went up top Eddie met him with two big kicks to the head and the running backpack stunner for a two. Big superplex by Edwards, then a follow-up Chickenwing attempt by Eddie, and a retaliation Boston Knee Party (SoCal knee Party?) by Kaz, before the fight again spilled to the floor with a tumbling inside-out vertical suplex.

In-ring a slingshot cutter by Kaz came super close to a win, then a follow-up crossbody by Kaz took out the ref by accident. Double clothesline took both men down, with Alisha retrieving Kendra the kendo stick from under the ring. Alisha didn’t get a chance to swing Kendra as Traci brooks made the save, with Kaz locking in the Chickenwing, Eddie tapping. But the ref was still down, and as Kaz went to wake him Eddie came swinging with the kendo stick, then hit Boston Knee Party for the win.

Trinity def. Deonna Purrazzo (c) - Knockouts World Championship

A live violinist serenaded Deonna Purrazzo to the ring, as ‘The Virtuosa’ looked to let Trinity know who the head of the Knockouts Division was. In-ring introductions from Dave Penzer, as Purrazzo and Trinity slowly circled each other to feel each other out as the bell rang. All even in the opening exchanges, until Purrazzo went for an early Fujiwara Armbar attempt. The action spilled to the floor as Trinity hit a corkscrew tornillo, then followed up in ring with a diving crossbody from the top. Purrazzo regrouped and started wearing down Trinity’s arm, hoping to weaken the challenger ahead of a further Armbar attempt. Purrazzo was dominant in working over Trinity, and a comeback attempt by the challenger saw her tied up like a pretzel.

Trinity eventually fired back, levelling Purrazzo with a big Samoan Drop and a kick to the face for a nearfall. Starstruck attempt was thwarted, before Trinity rocked Purrazzo with a kick to the head. A bleeding Purrazzo planted the challenger with a package Tombstone for two, then finally sunk in the Fujiwara Armbar on Trinity’s injured arm… but Trinity was close enough to grab the ropes with her good arm. Springboard X Factor from Trinity and an RVD split legged moonsault got a nearfall.

The fight found its way to the apron where Purrazzo hitting a nasty looking Queen’s Gambit, but it could only get a two for the champ. Purrazzo tried for an Avalanche Queen’s Gambit to no avail, Trinity hitting a top rope Bubba Bomb into Starstruck in the middle of the ring, Purrazzo submitting for the first time in her IMPACT career. Trinity is your new Knockouts World Champion.

Alex Shelley (c) vs. Nick Aldis - IMPACT World Championship

Main event time, but would it be six title changes in one night?

Shelley wasn’t in the mood to be play nice, spitting a mouthful of water in Aldis’ face as the bell rang. Aldis was clearly annoyed, crushing Shelley with a powerbomb before locking in an early King’s Lynn Cloverleaf in the middle of the ring. Aldis was in control to the displeasure of the fans, sending Shelley across the ring with a suplex as the fans rallied behind the Motor City Machine Gun. Shelly tried coming back with a quick dive, but a focused Aldis caught him for an impressive vertical suplex with aplomb.

Shelley fought back, focusing his attacks on Aldis’ knee, hitting multiple kicks and a pair of dragon screws to take the ‘National Treasure’ off of his solid base. A baseball slide attempt was spotted by Aldis, who caught Shelley in the ringskirt, holding the champ in place as he peppered him with strikes. Shelley changed his focus to Aldis’ arm, looking to break down the challenger part-by-part, driving the former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion’s arm repeatedly into the ring post, even bending Aldis’ fingers in the turnbuckle connector post.

Shelley continued to slowly dismantle the challenger, but Aldis had enough in the tank to level Shelley with a big lariat. Aldis climbed up top, but Shelley cut him off with a big time superplex. Both men exchanged standing strikes, with Shelley levelling Aldis with a Sliced Bread into the Border City Stretch. Aldis rolled through into a pin for two, and a second Sliced Bread attempt by Shelley allowed Aldis to regroup and counter it into a Tombstone for two. Elbow drop for two by Aldis, and the frustration saw Aldis grab the IMPACT World Championship, hoping to slug the champ with the belt. Shelley regained the title, but as the ref confiscated it Aldis hit a lowblow and a Fire Thunder Driver for a nearfall. Aldis again grabbed the belt, but Shelley countered a shot into a DDT onto the championship. Superkick to a bleeding Aldis, and a shellshock sealed the deal, Shelley being the only wrestler to walk in and out of of Slammiversary with their championship intact.

As Shelley celebrated with the title, Josh Alexander made his return to IMPACT, ‘The Walking Weapon’ receiving a hero’s welcome from the Canadian crowd, before simply announcing “I’m back”.
