The journey to Victory Road picks up

IMPACT took another step towards Victory Road this week, with the IMPACT Plus special on September 18 confirming its main event.

Tommy Dreamer looked to turn back the clock in the main event against Ace Austin, and if The Innovator of Violence won he’d be added to Victory Road’s main event against Austin and IMPACT World Champion Christian Cage. However, Austin had an ace up his sleeve in the form of Madman Fulton, and despite Dreamer showing the kind of heart and fortitude that made him an ECW icon, he couldn’t seal the deal, with Austin putting him away with The Fold.

Tensions escalated between IMPACT Tag Champions The Good Brothers and the team of Rich Swann and WIllie Mack. The GBs were bragging about their dominance of IMPACT’s tag division, and congratulated themselves on sending Willie to the hospital last week. Rich Swann took umbrage with these comments, but security separated Swann and The Good Brothers before an all-out war broke out. IMPACT EVP Scott D’Amore later sanctioned Swann vs. Karl Anderson in a Bunkhouse Brawl next week.

X Division Champion Josh Alexander continued his hot streak by defeating returning former champion Jake Crist in an open challenge. This was Crist’s first appearance in an IMPACT ring since June 2020, but he couldn’t do anything to overcome The Walking Weapon. Post-match, Alexander staked a claim to be the greatest X Division Champion of all time, drawing out former eight-time champion Chris Sabin who challenged Alexander to a match at Victory Road.

Elsewhere, W. Morrissey and Moose formed an alliance and decimated Eddie Edwards. VBD announced their displeasure with Rhino’s recent failings. Rohit Raju and Shera defeated Matt Cardona and Chelsea Green after Rohit nailed Green with a knee to the face.
