Inaugural IWGP Women's Title Match Confirmed For NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over
The first ever IWGP Women’s Champion will be crowned at NJPW x STARDOM Historic X-Over
We are less than a month away from the first ever New Japan pro Wrestling and Wonder Ring STARDOM crossover show with the aptly named Historic X-Over set for Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on November 20.
As part of the ever growing relationship between the two promotions, NJPW announced that the first ever IWGP Women’s Champion would be crowned at the show, and we now know who will be fighting for the prestigious honour.
A tournament was set up to crown the first champion, and at the finals at Historic X-Over, Kairi (fka Kairi Sane) will face Mayu Iwatani, with the pair defeating Alpha Female and Utami Hayashishita respectively for their spot in the final.
Kairi’s return match to STARDOM in March saw her teaming with Iwatani, but their meeting at Historic X-Over will be their first singles bout against one another since May 2017, when Iwatani defeated Kairi for the World of Stardom Title.
As two of the biggest stars in STARDOM, Kairi vs. Iwatani will go down as one of the biggest matches in company history, with the two being dubbed ‘The Daughters of Stardom’ alongside Io Shirai.
