IWGP US Champion Jon Moxley Challenges Yuji Nagata

Mox made the challenge on Twitter

IWGP US Champion Jon Moxley has challenged Yuji Nagata to a title match.

In a video posted to New Japan’s Global Twitter account, Mox lay down the challenge to the legendary Nagata, where Mox said that as Champion he wanted to respect the legends of this industry, and got to pick his own fights, before telling Nagata to “grab his six-shooter” and to meet Moxley “outside the saloon at dawn.”

Moxley’s current reign as US Champion has lasted over 450 days, although it has been severely hampered by Covid-19 travel restrictions. Moxley last defended the title against KENTA on the February 26 edition of NJPW Strong, and in 2020 had successful defences against the likes of Juice Robinson and Minoru Suzuki.

Nagata is a two-time former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and a former one time GHC Heavyweight Champion in Pro Wrestling NOAH, holding the former for a combined 570 days.

No date has been announced for the potential bout thus far, nor is there any word that Nagata has accepted the proposition.
