Jeff Cobb will be a part of New Japan Pro-Wrestling for at least one more day as he defeated former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito in the second round of the New Japan Cup.

Cobb faced Naito in the main event of today's show at Osaka's Kanaoka Park Gymnasium. The United Empire picked up the win with his Tour of the Islands finisher and addressed reports of him heading to WWE in a post-match promo, saying: "If you believe the internet then Naito was going to beat me today but ergh-ergh."

It has been reported that WWE are interested in signing Jeff Cobb and, although not confirmed, there have been claims that Cobb is already listed on WWE's internal roster.

Jeff Cobb will wrestle his next match for NJPW tomorrow against Shota Umino in the quarter-finals of the New Japan Cup. The quarter-finals of the tournament are as follows:

  • Jeff Cobb vs. Shota Umino
  • David Finlay vs. Yuya Uemura
  • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Taichi
  • Drilla Moloney vs. Shingo Takagi

IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto will also defend his title on tomorrow's show against Yuji Nagata.
