Jeff Cobb Reveals He Asked To Wrestle More In WWE

Jeff Cobb debuted in WWE at the Backlash 2025 PLE last year, but by the time the 2026 edition of Backlash rolled around, he was among the various post-WrestleMania 42 releases from the promotion. Cobb competed in WWE as JC Mateo alongside the likes of Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, and Talla Tonga in the MFTs faction. Unfortunately for Mateo, he wasn’t often afforded much screen time. 

Speaking with Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Cobb revealed that he ended up pitching to wrestle more in WWE after finding himself underused in the company. 

“I don’t want to sound like a bitter ex-employee. Could I have done more? Yes. Could they have given me more stuff to do? Yes. At the same time, ‘maximize your minutes.’ I tried to do that. The first couple of months, I was more, ‘Yes, whatever you want from me.’ The last couple of months I was like, ‘Can I do more? Can I talk more?’ If I don’t show my personality, then I’m just Bodyguard #2. I wanted to do more, wrestle more. That’s what you signed me for, based off my wrestling. New Japan, we don’t do too much character stuff or vignettes. ‘You hired me for wrestling. Let me wrestle. Put me on Main Event. Put me in dark matches.’ ‘We’ll see,’”. 

Cobb also revealed that he expected to be called “Jeff Cobb” due to Michael Cole calling his name during his Backlash debut, only to be shocked when WWE changed it up the following week.
