Jeff Cobb made his WWE debut at the recent Backlash 2025 premium live event. The 42 year old former NJPW star made his presence known during the fatal four way US Title, aiding Jacob Fatu to victory under the orders of Solo Sikoa. At the time, Cobb was referred to under the name that fans have come accustomed to for many years - this has now changed.
On last night’s May 16 episode of Friday Night SmackDown, it was revealed that Cobb had gone under a renaming - being referred to as “JC” by Solo Sikoa in a promo on the show. It has been made official that he will go by JC Mateo, with him now appearing on WWE’s YouTube and website under this new ring name.
WWE filed a trademark for the name the previous week, though it has only been now revealed that this is the new ring name for Jeff Cobb. Following his debut, reports emerged on how happy WWE were with Cobb already, with it being learned that he took four or five flights in order to make it to Backlash in time for his debut.
