Jim Ross Claims Male Wrestlers Were Upset Over Lita & Trish Stratus Main Eventing WWE Raw

Jim Ross says some members of the WWE Raw roster were not happy with Lita vs. Trish Stratus main eventing

The December 6, 2004 episode of WWE Raw was a special occasion for WWE Hall of Famers Lita and Trish Stratus.

The two stars were booked in the show's main event, their Women's Championship bout being the first time two female performers were given the opportunity to headline WWE's flagship broadcast by themselves.

Lita had previously headlined the August 21, 2000 edition of Raw (where she defeated Stephanie McMahon to win the Women's Title for the first time), but the focus of that bout was primarily on Kurt Angle and Triple H (at ringside) and special guest referee The Rock.

Speaking about the match on a recent edition of his Grilling JR podcast, legendary announcer Jim Ross noted that many male stars were not happy with Lita and Trish going on last:

"They were the first females to main event Raw, which I thought was great. That's a lot bigger deal — even today — than people give it credit for. Many p***ed-off wrestlers with testicles. They (Trish and Lita) deserved the opportunity, and they delivered," Ross said.

Ross had previously tweeted about the pushback he personally received as WWE's then-Head of Talent Relations due to the match, writing:

"You wouldn't believe the push back from male wrestlers that I received when they found out that @trishstratuscom and @AmyDumas were going to close Raw. They deserved the opportunity and I'm happy that we did it".

Lita and Trish both returned to WWE earlier this year and performed alongside each other at WrestleMania 39. Stratus is continuing her current run and is set to clash with Becky Lynch at SummerSlam.
