The angle to close out WrestleDream 2024 was a wild one, with Jon Moxley choking out Bryan Danielson, not only winning the AEW World Championship but also ending his full-time in-ring career. Post-match, Moxley and the Blackpool Combat Club continued to attack Danielson in addition to several of AEW’s babyface. The commentary team were sombre for much of the final moments of the PPV, with Jim Ross going silent.
When speaking on his Grilling JR podcast, he explained why he didn’t say anything towards the end of the show.
"I was silent because I didn't know what I needed to say to continue to sell the moment and the fact that Bryan Danielson, by his own word, said the day he loses the title is the day he's done, and he obviously lost the title. So, I take him, among any wrestler that I've ever met, at his word ... The pictures and the natural sounds told the story very well."
Ross went on to say that he doesn’t believe Danielson is retired for good, expecting him to wrestle at least somewhere in the future. Danielson reportedly requires MRI scans on his neck, which will dictate whether he needs neck surgery, putting question marks around his future as a wrestler.
