John Cena Admits To Being Surprised By Positive Fan Reaction At WWE Money In The Bank 2021

A huge ovation for the returning Cena

John Cena has admitted that even he was surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reaction he got on his return to WWE.

Cena retuned to a rapturous pop from the live WWE audience at Money In The Bank last month, coming back to the promotion for the first time since WrestleMania 36 last year. The 16 time World Champion has been heavily cheered on every show he's appeared on since.

Usually, Cena gets a half-and-half reaction from the audience and the returning star has admitted he was expecting more of the same at Money In The Bank, but believes the genuinely surprising nature of his comeback elicited a more positive response.

Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Cena said: "I’m not used to that. Usually the arenas, half of the people, or more, are telling me that I suck and half of the people are saying, ‘Let’s go Cena.’ So I was kind of expecting that.

"I’ve been curtailing off my number of performances for WWE for the last few years now because I’ve been filming all these projects, but I didn’t expect the shift to be that much. I think that’s because it was a genuine surprise.

"I think the thing I hold closest about that Money in the Bank appearance is, in this day and age, trying to orchestrate some sort of real genuine surprise is so very rare, and it was a genuine moment of everybody was excited, and that led me to be really excited."
