John Cena Vs. Randy Orton Official For WWE Backlash 2025

It was expected, rumoured, and reported, but it is now official - John Cena will defend his newly won WWE Championship against Randy Orton at the upcoming WWE Backlash premium live event in St. Louis, Missouri on May 10 in the Enterprise Center. 

Following on from Randy Orton’s surprise attack and RKO on John Cena during RAW after WrestleMania earlier this week, the pair came face to face for a promo segment on SmackDown last night. They traded some jibes, Orton told Cena to have kids, Cena shouted at some of the crowd members, and in the end, Orton nailed another RKO on Cena, with their title match made official soon after.

A report from WrestleVotes via Backstage Pass confirmed the match before SmackDown, but has also revealed that the match will be billed as ‘one last time’, which has yet to be added to promotional material for the matchup.

Plenty of reports have emerged over the last week when it comes to why Cena turned heel earlier than WrestleMania 41, and potential upcoming plans for his WWE Title reign, including a potential tag team match with Travis Scott & Bad Bunny.
