Gunther issued a violent attack on the commentary team of Monday Night RAW the night after WrestleMania earlier this week, attempting to lock Michael Cole in a sleeper hold before Pat McAfee came to his aid. Gunther would then choke out McAfee until security and backstage personnel got involved.
RAW General Manager Adam Pearce took to social media yesterday to make the announcement that the former World Heavyweight Champion was to be suspended indefinitely and fined an undisclosed amount of money.
“Your actions were reprehensible and disgusting. You will never again put your hands on a member of my announce team, because there ain’t no heat in beating up an announcer. You’re frustrated because you lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso, and I get that. But if you want to blame somebody, then park your ass in front of a mirror and ask the person staring back at you.”
It has now been revealed as to why Gunther has been taken off WWE programming, as Cory Hays on X has reported that Gunther requested time off, leading to WWE writing in a storyline reason for him to be out of action. Gunther hasn’t spent much time away from WWE over the last few years, going on a record-breaking run as Intercontinental Champion before then immediately pursuing the World Heavyweight Title, eventually losing it at WrestleMania 41.
