Update On WWE Plans For Cathy Kelley

It was revealed over the last week that WWE backstage interviewer Cathy Kelley was training for a potential in-ring run in the company, but also preparing for a potential move to an on-screen managerial role. 

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has offered some more of a concrete idea on Cathy Kelley going forwards. With the initial report not having anything surefire on whether she’d be progressing as an in-ring performer or a manager, Meltzer has confirmed that the working idea within WWE is that she will in fact be a manager. This suggests that the in-ring training could be so that she can take bumps in her role as a more active member of storylines and feuds. 

News of Kelley getting more involved in WWE programming as a character has brought up conversation online of former WWE ring announcer Samantha Irvin wanting the same, but ultimately being rejected by WWE before she eventually parted ways due to not wanting to stay in the same role. 

Kelley initially signed with WWE all the way back in 2019, leaving a year later. Her return in 2022 has seen her undertake the role of a backstage interviewer ever since, in addition to hosting some online shows for the promotion.
