One of the worst kept secrets in wrestling has finally been unveiled, as on last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Fort Worth, Texas, former NXT Champion Aleister Black made his official return to WWE.
During SmackDown, The Miz was in the ring cutting a promo about missing out on WrestleMania 41, damning others for getting opportunities over him, only for the lights to go out and for some familiar music to hit. Unlike Rusev’s return on Monday Night RAW that saw him receive new music, Aleister Black was right back to his beloved entrance theme that he used throughout his time in NXT. And no - the wooden board that raises him from the ground DOESN’T have the creaky sound effect.
Black came to the ring and nailed the Black Mass finisher on The Miz. WWE announced that Black’s first match back with WWE would be against The Miz next week on SmackDown when the company visits the Wells Fargo Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Black left AEW earlier this year after a several year spell in the company that saw him reign as AEW World Trios Champion. Black was a name thrown around by fans as Randy Orton's potential WrestleMania 41 opponent, but reports emerged explaining why this did not end up being the case.
