One month after his WWE return at WrestleMania 42, John Cena will appear on another WWE pay-per-view as he is scheduled to appear at Backlash to make what Cena described as a "history-making" announcement.

Cena promised on Thursday, May 7 while standing outside of Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida that his "major announcement" will "shock the very foundation of WWE."

Despite such heavy teases from Cena, though, WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported that the Backlash announcement is expected to be tied to Club WWE and its upcoming launch. WWE have high hopes for Club WWE and a source within the company noted Cena being established as the face of the announcement was considered a "huge boost."

Bodyslam also noted that Cena working Backlash was an easy appearance for the 17-time world champion as he lives in the Tampa area. The appearance was agreed on weeks ago.

Club WWE was officially unveiled on the go-home episode of Monday Night Raw before WrestleMania 42. The initiative has been described as "the ultimate insider membership programme" for WWE fans, and members of Club WWE will have early access to WWE tickets, a members-only shop, a points and rewards hub, a community forum, and bonus content.
