Jon Moxley will be heading back to Japan in July.

El Desperado issued a challenge to Moxley in recent days, saying he wants a rematch with the three-time AEW World Champion. The two men previously faced off at Music City Mayhem over SummerSlam 2022 weekend. Moxley won that clash via referee stoppage.

Moxley has since responded to the challenge, revealing that Homicide will be heading to New Japan with him for the NJPW STRONG Independence Day events at Korakuen Hall on July 4 and July 5. Moxley announced he will team with Homicide to take on Despe and a partner of the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion's choosing. Desperado is a part of Strong Style with Minoru Suzuki and Ren Narita so he may choose one of those wrestlers to be his partner.

Moxley returned to Japan at Dominion on June 4. Moxley, Shota Umino, and Claudio Castagnoli failed to defeat Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Tomohiro Ishii for the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championships at the event.

Already set for Independence Day is KENTA vs. Eddie Kingston for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship and Catch 2/2 vs. Dan Moloney & Clark Connors for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Titles.
