Jon Moxley Wins Vacant AEW World Title At Grand Slam

Three times a charm for Jon Moxley

Jon Moxley is once again AEW World Champion, after beating Bryan Danielson in a tournament final at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam on Wednesday night in New York City.

Late in the match, Moxley hit Danielson with the Paradigm Shift on the entrance ramp, but could only get a two count back inside the ring. Moments later, Moxley hooked a rear-naked choke, which Danielson tried to escape by kicking off the turnbuckles. However, Moxley rolled through the escape attempt, trapped Danielson's legs with his own, and managed to choke him out to win the title.

All during the match, MJF watched from above in a skybox, toting the poker chip entitlement that he won at All Out.

Moxley made it to the final by defeating Sammy Guevara in the semifinals, after having received a first-round bye. Danielson defeated Adam Page in the opening round, before defeating Chris Jericho in the semis.

Moxley is the first three-time AEW World Champion, with CM Punk being the only other multiple-time titleholder (two reigns).

The AEW World Title had been vacant since September 7, after champion Punk was forced to vacate it due to suspension and injury, following his part in a locker room brawl involving The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Ace Steel after the All Out pay-per-view in Chicago three nights earlier.
