The late former WWE star Kamala has been signed to a posthumous Legends deal with the company.
As announced on the Kamala 'The Ugandan Giant' Facebook page, his estate struck a deal with WWE, paving the way for future merchandising and other opportunities.
Kamala's widow commented "We couldn't be prouder that James's legacy is back home where it belongs". The agency behind the deal, 16 Creative, also commented on the news, with CEO Jared Ashley saying:
"When we began working with the estate, my main goal was to get Kamala signed to a Legends deal - and hopefully into the WWE Hall of Fame. I've always felt that's where he belongs, and I think many of his fans would agree. It has been such an honor to work with this family over the past few years, and now with WWE, to help preserve Kamala's incredible legacy".
Portrayed by James Harris (who initially wrestled as 'Sugar Bear' Harris upon his 1978 debut), Kamala was one of the most memorable characters of the 1980s, wrestling for territories such as Continental, World Class, Mid-South and the AWA, as well as overseas for All Japan.
He is best remembered for his various stints in WWE, where he feuded with the likes of Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker. He made further one-off WWE appearances while in semi-retirement, wrestling in the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X-Seven, as well as putting over Randy Orton and Umaga in matches on SmackDown and Raw.
Harris struggled with various serious health issues in his later life, before passing away in August 2020 at the age of 70.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Kamala was expected to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
