Two of the biggest stars in New Japan Pro Wrestling history are set to team up, as Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi have set their sights on the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.

The self proclaimed ‘Dream Team’ are set to challenge Hirooki Goto and YOSHI-HASHI for the belts in the main event of NJPW’s 51st Anniversary show on March 6, taking place in the Ota City Gymnasium - the site of the very first NJPW card in 1972.

This will be the first time Okada and Tanahashi have teamed in traditional two-on-two tag action since September 2022, where The Dream Team overcame TMDK’s JONAH and Shane Haste at Burning Spirit in Korakuen Hall.

The match was proposed at NJPW’s recent Battle in the Valley event, where after defeating Tanahashi in singles action, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Okada suggested they team up to take on Okada’s CHAOS stablemates.

Tanahashi has reigned with the tag titles on three occasions, having held the titles with the likes of Yutaka Yoshie, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Kota Ibushi. Okada, on the other hand, has never held the titles during his gold laden run in New Japan, and it remains to be seen if The Dream Team can get the job done.
