Kenny Omega Defeats Will Ospreay At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17

Kenny Omega has beaten Will Ospreay at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17!

Kenny Omega is IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion once again.

The Best Bout Machine went one on one with Will Ospreay in the co-main event of Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4 and while Will Ospreay was the favourite due to Omega's AEW commitments, The Cleaner left the Tokyo Dome as the new champion.

Ospreay and Omega fought back and forth in an early match of the year contender and the former AEW World Champion survived a late onslaught from Ospreay before he connected with Kota Ibushi's Kamigoye and the One Winged Angel for the victory. Their feud doesn't look to be over, though, as Omega showed off his new title as Ospreay looked on despairingly from the outside.

With his win, Kenny Omega is a two-time IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion. He was the inaugural champion, winning a tournament in the summer of 2017 and he held the belt for 210 days until he lost the title to Jay White in early 2018.

Omega also scored the win in his first major singles match in over a year, since he lost the AEW World Championship to Hangman Page at Full Gear 2021.
