Kenny Omega Teams With Kazuchika Okada At NJPW New Year Dash!!

Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada stand side by side at NJPW New Year Dash!!

In a historic moment, career rivals Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada teamed together for the first time ever at New Japan Pro-Wrestling's New Year Dash!! show on January 5.

None of the matches were announced ahead of time and Kenny Omega wasn't expected to be in action but he suddenly made his way to the ring for the main event. Okada was then revealed as The Best Bout Machine's tag team partner and they took on The United Empire's Jeff Cobb and Aaron Henare. The two former rivals worked well together and Omega and Okada picked up the win after a Rainmaker to Henare.

Okada and Omega then celebrated together before they cemented their future title matches. Kenny Omega had a confrontation with Jeff Cobb, signalling they will go one-on-one for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title that Omega won at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4.

Okada, meanwhile, had another confrontation with Shingo Takagi and they will clash over the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at a future show. Okada regained the top title in NJPW at Wrestle Kingdom 17, defeating Jay White.

Okada and Omega previously had a trilogy for the ages over the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. Okada won the first clash at Wrestle Kingdom 11 in January 2017 and they fought to a time-limit draw at Dominion a few months later. Omega would then defeat Okada during the G1 Climax before The Cleaner finally beat Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Title at Dominion 2018, ending The Rainmaker's historic reign in the process.
