KENTA Wins IWGP US Heavyweight Title At NJPW Power Struggle

KENTA is US Champion!

One year on from his last singles win over Hiroshi Tanahashi, KENTA has defeated The Ace once again, this time for a championship.

KENTA challenged Tanahashi for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title at today's Power Struggle show from EDION Arena Osaka. The former WWE star managed to survive a High Fly Flow through a table and he later drilled Tanahashi's head into an exposed turnbuckle before he followed up with the Go To Sleep for the victory.

With his loss at Power Struggle, Tanahashi's reign as IWGP US Champion comes to an end after 84 days, having defeated Lance Archer for the gold at Resurgence in August. The Ace successfully defended the title once against Kota Ibushi in The Golden Star's return match in September.

KENTA was previously heavily featured in the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title picture in the second half of 2020 and early 2021 while he held the Right To Challenge Briefcase. He would unsuccessfully challenge then-champion Jon Moxley for the gold in February of this year on NJPW Strong.

The US Title wasn't the only championship to change hands at Power Struggle today. El Desperado also defeated Robbie Eagles to capture the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title for the second time.
